LA City College-Rockfish Spring
League This Weekend--(Mar. 1, 2002)

Yes, we know that the Section Finals are being played this weekend and that the State Tournament starts next week also, but life, and spring league goes on, even if the LACC Rockfish Spring League will get off to a somewhat halting start on Saturday.  Here's the deal:  The league will begin play on Saturday at LA City College, but with a couple of minor (and one or two huge) glitches:  First, LA City College is still in the thick of the State JUCO Tournament, and they will host a game on Saturday night, so that means one of the two gyms which will be regularly used (i.e., the main gym) won't be available for much of the day, and certainly, none of the evening.   So LACC-RSL will use the other "women's" gym, which is located about 300 yards away on Heliotrope for most of the games on Saturday.

Second, there are still a lot of players in the league on the "house" Rockfish teams who are still in playoffs, and some of the outside teams (e.g., Double Pump, Inland, IEBP, etc. ) are also still in the playoffs.    So the rosters will be spotty and will only include those players whose high school teams have been eliminated from playoffs.

Third, the schedule (and location) for Sunday's games is still up in the air, and won't be known until either later today, perhaps not until Saturday...heck, maybe never.

But we do have the complete Saturday schedule and the Rockfish team rosters, which we've slightly reorganized into alphabetical listings by the name of the each player (we've also reformatted what Dave Benezra and Mark Mayemura e-mailed us, so that it would fit on the page....).  Here's what we know:

  Men's Gym Women's Gym
10:00 am   Bluefins vs. Orcas
11:30 am   Inland vs. H Squad
12 noon     Orcas vs. Hammerheads
1:00 pm   Bluefins vs. Inland
1:30 pm     H Squad vs. Swordfish
3:00 pm     Hammerheads vs. Dolphins
4:30 pm     Swordfish vs. Barracudas
6:00 pm     Barracudas vs. Dolphins

The Mens Gym is located near the corner of Willowbrook & Vermont, where the league has been played for the past four years. The Women's Gym is on the western perimeter of LACC, on Heliotrope Dr.--near the corner of Willowbrook & Heliotrope,  located right next to the Sheriff's station on campus.  Aside from players and coaches, there will be an admission fee of $ 3, which is good for both gyms, all day long.
