6th Annual "Battle Of The Valley"
Girls' All-Star Rosters' Announced--(Apr. 12, 2002)

Time:    6:00 p.m.

The Valley Sports Foundation is once again hosting the "Battle of the Valley" All-Star games at California State University at Northridge.  There will be two games, a girls' All-Star game at 6:00 p.m. followed by a boys' All-Star game which will commence at 8:00 p.m. (or as soon as the girls' game is done).   Coaches of the teams were announced last month-- Doug Nichol of Burroughs in Burbank will coach the Southern Section Girls and Michelle Chevalier of Sylmar will coach the girls of the City Section.

There are some top players participating this year.   This year, Liz Sun, Britney Hamilton, Ashley Shelton and Linnae Barber, who led Chatsworth to the City Championship final, headline the City Section team.  In the Battle of the Valley series of all-star games, the City Section lost the firt four games, before winning for the first time last year.

Amy Malbon of Division I-A runner-up Hart and Felicia Martino of Division V-AA runner-up Granada Hills Hillcrest Christian join a Soputhern Section team which also includes Cassandra Harris, Rachel Hever, and Alex Mallen of three-time Marmonte League Champions Newbury Park, as well as Teresa Cooper, Simi Valley's career scoring leader.

The Battle of the Valley All Star game has produced more than 30 Divison I college players in both boys' and girls', will feature athletes chosen from among 75 area high schools.  The Valley Sports Foundation, is a non-profit organization which organizes youth sports and activities for local athletes and schools.

We'll be covering the game, and we also understand that it will be televised (or recorded for later broadcast) by either KDOC or on one of the local cable outlets using the KDOC camera crews....Either way, get there in time to see it because this is a game which is always fun.  And as for the Slam Dunk contest, well, they can just hand the title to Louis Darby before it even starts.....seriously.   That young man can jump out of the gym.
