Crenshaw's Onye Ibekwe Signs
NLI With Oklahoma State--(May 9, 2002)

toc-logo.gif (3230 bytes)Not only has Eddie Sutton gotten a solid transfer, picking up former SoCal shooting ace Dan Bobik from Newbury Park, CA, via BYU, but he also reportedly received a signed National Letter of Intent a few days ago from Onye Ibekwe (6'-6" Sr. PF) of Crenshaw HS.  Onye has played for Rick Isaac's "H-Squad" travel teams for the past two years, and he's a real stud inside the paint. While not as widely recruited as his younger brother Ikene, a very talented 6'-8" Jr.  who is more of a smooth and effective scoring wing forward who is being recruited by some very big time schools,  but still Onye is a very good pick up for OSU.   Rumors had been floating for weeks that whoever picked up Onye would have the inside track at Ikene, but that seems unlikely at this point.  In fact the brothers, while from a very close-knit family, actually have blossomed playing apart, and Onye has been at Crenshaw the past three years, while Ikene has remained at Carson.   While both schools are in the LAUSD and the City Section, they are in different leagues and different areas of town and rarely compete against each other except in preseason and playoffs. Onye reportedly considered USC, San Diego State, Long Beach State and several other mid-majors before deciding on Oklahoma State.
