Say No League Tryouts This Weekend
@ LA Trade Tech--(May 22, 2002)
Just a short reminder for those of you who will not be attending one of the many Memorial Day weekend tournaments, including Mats Madness in Fresno, or the Bay Area Rumble, or Bob Gibbons' Memorial Day Tournament of Champions. If you're attending those events, then you likely still have high school eligibility remaining; but if you are a college player or headed there next year, then you might want to check out the Say No League, sponsored by Nike, which will be in its 26th season this summer. The Say No will be holding tryouts this weekend, May 25 & 26 at LA Trade Tech, located in downtown Los Angeles. Tryouts will be held each day from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and there will be a $20 administrative fee you'll have to pay to participate. League play is set to begin on June 7th and schedules have been promised by Michael Wolfe and Rod Smith by around May 30th, and preliminary rosters will reportedly be available June 3rd.
The league has a very complete website, thanks to Michael Wolf, and just about everything you'll need to know about the league can be found there. And while the league will be moving this year to a different gym (it will be held at West LA College), the tryouts will still be held at Trade Tech. The reasons for the move are complicated, and they have more to do with ping-pong (in the real sense) than they do with basketball, but that's a whole different story.... If you need directions to Trade Tech, here's a handy link...click here for directions.
The Say No is an NCAA Certified League, meaning that college coaches can and do attend during the summer evaluation period. For the most part, the league consists of players who are already members of college teams, and regularly features some of the top players in the country who either attend school here or who call SoCal home (consistent with NCAA regulations which limit league play of enrolled student-athletes).
See you there...
