What:   Best In The West Varsity Invitational
When:   August 1-4, 2002
Where:   Gahr High School
Who:   32 Top Local HS Teams

Each summer for the past 13 years, there has been a series of summer tournaments which have featured some of the top players from SoCal under the rubric of "Best in the West."  While the folks running tournaments under that name have changed places (the tournaments used to be run jointly by the Artesia coaching staff and the Long Beach Press-Telegram), Jeff Day, a longtime referee and former assistant at Artesia took over the reins last year and this year he's put together a series of tournaments, including one very large "end of summer" bash which will be played on two courts at Gahr High School from August 1st through the 4th, 2002.    And while it's outside the NCAA viewing period (which ends July 31), it's within the period under CIF-SS rules when coaches can still work with their own high school players, i.e., the CIF-SS "dead period" this year doesn't begin until August 5.

We don't have brackets, and there are still a few teams that are not listed who will participate but this tournament is loaded with top high school teams.  Teams scheduled to participate include:

Compton Centennial

Long Beach Millikan
Bishop Montgomery

We'll post the brackets as soon as they are made available.   In the meantime, if you have any questions about the tournament, or want to enter a team (on the wait list), give Jeff Day a call at 562-860-3727.
