Bob Erbst Named Head
Coach At Ayala HS--(June 5, 2002)

Bob Erbst has been named the new head coach at Ayala High School, replacing longtime former head coach Tom Gregory, who led Ayala to 10 straight CIF quarterfinal berths and 10 straight 20 win seasons, all in just 12 seasons.   The hiring was announced on Tuesday by Ayala AD Steve Martin, and is subject to approval by the Chino school district.

Erbst has been an assistant for the past five seasons at Troy in Fullerton.  His prior coaching experience also includes a stint as an assistant at Sunny Hills HS.  Prior to that Erbst played high school basketball at Katella under Tom Danley, where he was twice named All-CIF Southern Section first team.   He first played college ball at USC under both Stan Morrison and George Raveling, and was named to the Pac-10 All-Freshman team; he later transferred to UCSB where he played for former head coach Jerry Pimm.
