The 2002 LA Watts Summer Games will begin this weekend at various gym sites around Los Angeles. Sponsored by the LA Junior Chamber of Commerce, the basketball tournament portion of the LAWSG (there are many other sports as well, including track & field, baseball, softball, volleyball, etc), is run by a dedicated group of volunteers, who deserve some special thanks (we'll do that later), who work long and hard to insure a quality tournament experience for those participating. This year the tournament will feature more than 128 boys and girls teams, more than 1200 players, at 16 different venues in a new, double-elimination tournament format. Unfortunately, it also conflicts from a scheduling point of view with the SCIBCA tournament, but that's just life in the city, as they say..... and it also means a ton of basketball will be played all over the Southern California region this weekend, which is very good news for all those who are starved for high school hoops.
Each of the brackets can be accessed by clicking on the name of the site below. We've listed all the teams participating in each bracket, for easy reference. You can also click on a site address to get a map with directions (maps can also be configured to give you personalized driving directions to the site.)
