What:

Palm Springs HS Summer Tournament No. 1

When:

June 21, 22 & 23, 2002

Where:

Palm Spring  HS

Who:

26 Top SoCal HS Teams

As usual, Randy Small, head coach at Palm Springs HS, and Sy Lenes will once again combine this summer to produce some very good tournaments, a series of six or seven in all, for both boys' and girls' high school teams.   The first tournament takes place this weekend, June 21-23, with games starting Friday at 1:00 p.m. and continuing on the hour thereafter.  We don't have a complete bracket, but we do have a list of the teams and all of the first round matchups, and if you're going to be out in the desert this weekend, you'll want to stop over at Palm Springs HS to check out some excellent action.

Here is the schedule for Friday.  Note that there are two full courts in the Palm Springs HS gym, so there will be two games going on simultaneously at all times.  We don't know which games are on which courts at the moment, but that should be self-evident when you get there.

1:00 p.m.    Palm Springs vs.Beaumont
1:00 p.m.    Central  vs. Desert Chapel
2:00 p.m.     Cathedral City vs. Calvary Chapel
2:00 p.m.     Colony (Alaska) vs. Aquinas
3:00 p.m.     Huntington Beach vs. Orange
3:00 p.m.     Coachella vs. Yucaipa
4:00 p.m.     Banning vs. San Marcos
4:00 p.m.     La Habra II vs. Laguna Beach
5:00 p.m.     Carson Christian vs. Damien
5:00 p.m.     Indio vs. Valhalla

Teams receiving first round byes in the bracket are:

Artesia
Los Altos
La Habra1
Nogales
Lincoln (San Diego)
LA Jefferson

Again, if you happen to be out in the desert this weekend looking for some good basketball action, this is as good as any this time of year, so check it out.  And hopefully, Randy or someone who attends will send us a report of the outcome, who played well, and the all-tournament team.
