What:   26th Annual Nike "Say No Classic" Basketball League
America's Premier College Summer
When:   Saturday June 22 & Sunday June 23
Continuing Weekends through August, 2002
Who:   Top College-Level Players & Prospects

West Los Angeles, CA

The Say No Classic League had a few hiccups last weekend.   This year the games have been moved to West Los Angeles College, and unlike the staff at LA Trade Tech which knew what to expect and how to prepare the gym site, a few bugs are still being worked out.  Last Saturday, the first day of competition, the games got off without any hitches, but the bleachers weren't pulled out.  But that was nothing compared to Sunday:  It seems the lights at WLA College are computer controlled, and no one evidently programmed them to come on last Sunday.  The result was that no one could figure out how to override the computer, and the gym was dark, forcing the cancellation of all games on Sunday.  Those games will be rescheduled for later in the summer, but it's not clear exactly when they will take place.

Hopefully things got off to a better start last night with the two games that were played (Hoopmasters vs Say No at 6:30 p.m. and West Coast Academy vs. CABC at 8:00 p.m.), and we trust that someone will have reprogrammed the lights so they'll go on this Sunday.  In any event, here's the schedule for this weekend.

You can get results, selected stats and complete team rosters online at the Say No League website. The current version of the Say No website is the work of Rico Cabrerra, a former Harvard-Westlake and Colgate University player, as well as a former league participant, and you can always get current and up-to-date information about the league there, as well as any schedule changes we might have missed.

In the last 26 years, the old "Southern California College Open" has developed, changed and grown into what is now the nation's premier collegeiate summer league, the "Say No Classic."  This league has had some of the greatest basketball players in the world pass through, including many who have made it to the NBA.   This year should be no different, as the top players from all over the country who are from Southern California will either return home or remain in Los Angeles to compete in this NCAA certified summer league.  The Say No League also has a very impressive website, with team roster information, a new message board, player bios, and more, so you'll be able to keep track of player appearances, stats, and the like.

It's an NCAA certified league (it's required to be in order for current D-I players to participate), so in addition to some of the top players, you'll also see some Division I coaches during the summer as well.  Top current college players will include:
