The 2002 version of the annual summer "War on the Floor" which is actually hosted by Sylmar HS, but held elsewhere, will feature some of the top players in the SoCal high school ranks once again, including guys like Gabriel Pruitt and Aaron Afflalo from Compton Centennial, Nick Stigger from Montclair Prep, Ray Reed from inglewood, Steve Smith from Taft, Curtis Allen from Roling Hills Prep, and many, many others. This year's tournament will be played at Taft High School located in Woodland Hills, and at Pierce Community College, which is also located about two miles away from Taft, and also in Woodland Hills. The tournament will feature six pools of four teams each competing for two days of pool play (June 22 & 23) followed by two more days of single-elimination play (June 24 & 25). Here are the pools and the pool play schedule (such as we know it). We can't promise that there won't be some changes, but if we know Bort Escoto, this is probably set in quick-drying cement, and there won't be too many changes, at least not if he can help it.

The schedule for pool play is broken and will take place at three different gyms on two different campuses. One gym is located at Taft HS which can be found at the corner of Winnetka and Ventura Blvd., specifically at 5461 Winnetka Ave. in Woodland Hills, CA 91364. You can click this link to get a view of the campus map, but it's kind of disorienting actually, because the top of the map is facing south, not north as it should....ah, LAUSD and your tax dollars at work...anyway, the map will show you the location of the gym if you're hanging upside down when you arrive (remember, the top of the map is south).

The other location of the pool play games is Pierce College which is located just down Winnetka Avenue (actually, we mean to say it's located up Winnetka Ave., because Pierce is actually located north of Ventura Blvd and Taft HS)....Pierce is specifically located at 6201 Winnetka Ave., Woodland Hills. Exit the 101 Fwy westbound at Winnetka and turn right. You'll see the entrance to the college on the left at Calvert Street. Here's a map of the campus at Pierce. The games will take place in what the college calls the "North Gym" and the "South Gym" but if you really want to be technical about it, they are actually oriented to the west and east of each other... but then again, LAUSD and the LA Community College District are closely intertwined.
