Arizona's Andrew Zahn
Released; Will Transfer--(June 5, 2002)

The University of Arizona issued the following press release yesterday afternoon, announcing that Andrew Zahn, former Redondo Union class of 2000 graduate who was a redshirt freshman this past season, will transfer to another school yet to be named, but we wouldn't rule out a school like Pepperdine, where his former high school coach, Jim Nielsen is now an assistant under head coach Paul Westphal.   Andrew, whose brother Adam signed this past spring with Oregon, was rarely used by the Wildcats this past season, and he averaged just 0.9 points and 0.9 rebounds in 16 games.

TUCSON, Ariz. - University of Arizona men's basketball head coach Lute Olson announced Tuesday that redshirt freshman Andrew Zahn has decided to transfer to another institution.

Zahn, a 6-foot-9, 254-pound forward from Redondo Beach, Calif., averaged 0.9 points and 0.9 rebounds in 16 games last season. He initially joined the program in the fall of 2000 and sat out the 2000-01 campaign as a redshirt.

He averaged 5.7 points and 4.5 rebounds in Arizona's recently-completed 10-game tour of Australia. On the tour, Zahn reached double figures in points and rebounds one time each and scored the winning basket in Arizona's 115-113 overtime win over the Sydney Kings on June 1.

Following Zahn's departure, Arizona will return 10 letterwinners for the 2002-03 campaign.
