adidas ABCD Camp To Be Held
July 7-11 @ FDU--(July 2, 2002)

abcd.gif (2949 bytes) What: 17th Annual ABCD Camp
When: July 8-11, 2002
Where: Fairleigh-Dickinson University
Teaneck/Hackensack, New Jersey
Who: 200 Top Prep Players

This weekend (actually starting Friday, July 5 when Nike camp gets going), but really opn Monday July 8 starting when the D-I coaches arrive at ABCD, Nike Camp and a dozen other regional camps (e.g., Eastern Invitational, Pumps' West Coast All Stars, Five-Star, etc), the NCAA "open" evaluation period will begin.

We received a press release from Travis Gonzolez from adidas about a week ago, but with work and "stuff" we've been a bit remiss and neglected to post it.  Never fear, here it is, with just about everything (except a complete roster of the players who will attend) you ever really wanted to know about ABCD Camp.

Nike does get a slight jump on everyone by having all their kids come in on July 5, and that way they can get some of the NCAA's classroom requirements out of the way early and get the kids playing three-on-three games, but the fun really won't begin until Monday.  The atmosphere at the two camps is a bit different, with Nike being closed to the public, while adidas is open to spectators as well as to credentialed media and college coaches.

Here's the press release

THE WORLD’S ELITE HIGH SCHOOL HOOP PLAYERS TO
SHOWCASE THEIR TALENTS AT THE 17TH ANNUAL adidas ABCD CAMP

The July 8-11 adidas ABCD Camp to once again feature the nation’s best player, LeBron James

More than two hundred of the world’s best high school basketball players will take to the hardwood after attending a variety of college prep classes at the 17th annual adidas ABCD Camp. This year’s camp will be conducted from July 8-11, 2002, on the campus of Fairleigh Dickinson University (Hackensack, NJ).

The adidas ABCD Camp offers the student athletes a variety of mandatory classes ranging from verbal and math prep for the S.A.T. to life skills. Players are required to attend all their assigned classes in order to be eligible to play in the afternoon session of games. "The academic component is an area that everyone who is involved with the camp takes great pride in," stated Rich Kosik, adidas ABCD Camp Director of Academics. "These young men are not just athletes, but are first and foremost students. It is important that we help continue to solidify their educational building blocks to make them successful leaders of tomorrow."
