Justin Hawkins Offered By Utah; Will
Reportedly Take Other Visits--(July 18, 2002)

The Los Angeles Rockfish seem to strengthing the pipeline to Utah.  This past year, Tim Drisdom and Bryant Markson signed with Utah (in addition to Richard Chaney from Verbum Dei).   This year, it could be another Rockfish player headed to Utah.

Reliable sources have told us that Justin Hawkins (6'-5" Sr. G/F) from Mayfair HS was indeed offered a scholarship today by Utah coach Rick Majerus, who was in town at the Double Pump West Coast All-Star Camp and at various gyms this week during the first part of the NCAA "open evaluation" period, which ended yesterday, July 17 [the second half of the viewing period begins again this Monday, July 22, and runs through July 31].  These same sources also indicate that since Majerus didn't get to see Hawkins locally following ABCD Camp (Hawkins stayed in New York and played in the Three Stripes Tournament with the Rockfish, who finished second overall in the tournament), he visited Mayfair this afternoon to watch him work out with his teammates, and reportedly made the offer.

Hawkins put in some solid performances at ABCD, and then elevated his performances to an even higher level at the Three Stripes.   Justin will reportedly wait to make a decision, and will take a few other visits before deciding on his college choice.   Hawkins will play with the Rockfish in the Open Bracket of the adidas Las Vegas Big Time Tournament which starts this Monday, and then at the Pumps' "Best of Summer Tournament" at LMU and Lynwood HS from July 27-31.
