Long Beach State's Anthony Davis
Granted His Release--(Aug. 27, 2002)
According to a story by veteran sportswriter Gordon Verrell in this morning's Long Beach Press Telegram, Anthony Davis (6'-6" So. SG) was granted his release by 49'er head coach Larry Reynolds on Monday. Davis, who redshirted last season, has never played a game for Long Beach State. According to the story, "Anthony came in and asked for his release, and it was granted,' Reynolds told Verrell. "He said he was going to explore some other options. He'll probably be going to junior college.'
According to the LBPT, Davis confirmed last night that he will enroll at L.A. City College where he will play for coach Mike Miller. "I wanted to play in a bigger conference and junior college will be a good steppingstone," Davis told the paper. Davis, a former Rockfish player, attended several high schools. He first attended LA Locke HS, and then transferred to Cleveland for his junior season, and ended at Compton Centennial as a senior, where averaged 18.9 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.3 assists. Davis was a first-team All-CIF Southern Section Division III selection. According to the Press Telegram story, Davis also mentioned several schools that he is interested in attending after LACC, including USC, Washington, Oklahoma, Miami, and Iowa State. Coincidentally, former Long Beach State head coach Wayne Morgan is now an assistant at Iowa State.
