CSUDH Assistant Brad Enright Joins
Navy Coaching Staff--(Sept. 10, 2002)

We didn't hear about this until last week, and that's because it was announced while we were taking a break during August, but as we always say, better late than never....Brad Enright, who was largely responsible for recruiting this year's top recruiting class at Cal State Dominguez Hills has joined the men's basketball coaching staff at the Naval Academy in Anapolis, Maryland.   Navy is a member of the Division I Patriot League, and we want to wish Brad all the best in his new venture.   Here's the official press release from Navy, which was originally released on August 13, 2002 (yes, as we said, we're a bit late with this one), and we also want to thank Patrick Guillen, Director of Sports Information at Cal State Dominguez Hills for alerting us to the news.

n.gif (920 bytes)ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Navy head basketball coach Don DeVoe announced Tuesday he has hired Brad Enright as an assistant coach. Enright, who spent the last two seasons as an assistant at Cal State Dominguez Hills, replaces Jimmy Allen who recently accepted a job at Wofford College after six years with the program.

"Without question, Brad is a talented and youthful coach," said DeVoe, who will begin his 11th season at the helm of the Navy program this fall. "He has accomplished a great deal in a short amount of time, having worked at Cal State Northridge and Pepperdine before a full-time stint with Cal State Dominguez Hills. He will be involved in all aspects of the Navy basketball program, in particular as the coordinator of our West Coast recruiting effort."

During his two-year stay as a member of the Toros coaching staff, Enright was the top assistant for head coach Larry Hauser's program. In addition to his floor coaching responsibilities, he served as a major recruiter for the Toros. He also coordinated CSUDH's summer camps and managed the team's budget and handled travel arrangements.

Prior to Cal State Dominguez Hills, Enright served as the Director of Basketball Operations at Pepperdine University during the 1999-2000 season - the year in which the Waves captured the West Coast Conference Championship and upset Indiana in the NCAA Tournament. Underclass recruiting, scouting, film exchange, travel and day-to-day operations were among his various responsibilities at Pepperdine. Meanwhile, Enright also served as the Director of the Junior Waves, a youth basketball program sponsored by Pepperdine athletics.

Enright earned his first job in college athletics at his alma mater, Cal State Northridge, where he was an administrative assistant for the basketball program. His duties included scouting, on-campus recruiting and coordinating film exchange. He was also the director of the Matadors' summer basketball camps. A two-sport standout in baseball and basketball at Helix High School in La Mesa, Calif., Enright led his prep basketball team to the CIF San Diego Section semifinals in 1991 and '92.

Enright attended Southwestern Community College in Chula Vista, Calif., from 1992-94 and was a member of the baseball team his freshman year. While attending community college, he served as an assistant basketball coach at Helix High School, guiding the team to the CIF San Diego Section finals and the California state playoffs.

He enrolled at Cal State Northridge the following year and graduated in 1996 with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology with a minor in history. He went on to earn a master's degree in education administration in '01.

"Coming to Navy is a great opportunity and I'm happy Coach DeVoe found that I was the right person for this job," said the 27-year-old Enright. "Don DeVoe is an accomplished coach and I'm looking forward to learning from him. With the tradition of athletics and academics at the Naval Academy, there's not another university with its prestige and the kind of people it produces."
