Fullcourt Press
Fall Showcase

What:   10th Annual Fullcourt Press Fall Showcase
When:   Sunday, Sept.  8, 2002
Where:   Los Alamitos HS
Who:   Top SoCal Players, All Classes
Who Else:   D-II, III, NAIA and JUCO Coaches, National Scouts

As we've already said repeatedly, we couldn't be at the Fullcourt Press Fall Showcase this past Sunday because we were back in New Hampshire at Brewster Academy, but Dinos Trigonis sent us some observations about some of the frosh players who participated, evidently as a supplement to the notes published on Monday by Clark Francis of the HoopScoop.  These notes are brief, and they are limited solely to the freshman player who attended.   They do not reflect our views, so if you've got a complaint, let Dinos know about it.   Here are his observations of the frosh participants:

2002 Fullcourt Press Fall Showcase

"Top 24" Freshman Game Notes

White Squad

1 Dash Harris 5’5" 8th Crossroads (Santa Monica)

Very crafty floor general held his own with the older kids in this game. Great court instincts and competitive spirit.

2 Cameron Granville 5’7" Freshman Westchester (Los Angeles)

Younger brother of former USC point guard Brandon Granville has similar game and nice ballhandling abilities.

3 Donovan White 5’7" Freshman Fairfax (Los Angeles)

Baby-faced point guard may look like a cute kid, but don’t be fooled – he has no problem going for the jugular!!! Plays excellent defense and knows how to run a team. Scored 17 points in this game.

4 Todd Lowenthal 5’11" Freshman Torrey Pines (Del Mar)

San Diego native has nice knack for the ball and a promising future. Had a respectable 9 points.

5 Andre Dunn 6’0" Freshman Westchester (Los Angeles)

Strong guard takes it with authority to the basket and exhibited an improved perimeter shot. Played very unselfish in this game, choosing instead to get other teammates involved and let things happen in the flow of the game. Nice potential to be a "big" lead guard.

6 Tino Zaragosa 6’1" Freshman Northwood (Irvine)

Skilled wing has nice scoring abilities – pumping in 16 points with a nice array of shots and moves. Very good athlete has promise.

7 Tyree Thompson 6’2" Freshman Centennial (Compton)

Underrated freshman may play in the shadow of more heralded frosh teammate Jervaughn Johnson, but could be as important a factor for an Apache team in need of providing star junior guard Arron Aflalo with more perimeter help.

8 Edward Davis 6’2" Freshman Windward (Los Angeles)

Younger brother of Cleveland Cavalier wing Ricky Davis can score and will do a lot of it as a freshman at lower division CIF school Windward this season. Had 14 points here.

9 Bruno Naylor 6’3" Freshman Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks)

Very solid rebounder and defender.

10 Robere Lebeauf 6’4" Freshman Wilson (Long Beach)

Good looking wing forward has nice ballhandling ability.

11 Blake Wallace 6’5" Freshman Servite (Anaheim)

Agile forward runs floor well and can knock down shots in transition.

12 Taylor King 6’5" 8th Huntington Beach CA

Impressive 8th grader has nice all-around game and high skill level for grade. A future star!

232 Brandon Bell 6’6" Freshman St. John Bosco (Bellflower)

Wide-body bears a striking resemblance to former Crossroads power forward Isaiah Fox (Arizona). Solid rebounder and defender has very nice size.

238 Matt Shaw 6’7" Freshman Verbum Dei (Los Angeles)

Another "wide" body needs more agility but has very good potential to be a load in the paint. One to track.

Black Squad

1 A.J. Laguana 5’6" Freshman Poly (Long Beach)

Let the Wesley Stokes comparisons begin!!!!! Small in stature, but huge in heart and court presence!!! Great competitor with potential to be a very good team leader. Contributed 9 points.

2 Greg Scott 5’7" Freshman Kennedy (La Palma)

Quick guard is a nice ballhandler.

3 Joseph Johnson 5’8" Freshman Serra (Gardena)

Outstanding point guard has quickness and ability to beat defenders off the dribble. Scored 10 points with multiple assists.

4 Mike Mayo 6’0" Freshman St. John Bosco (Bellflower)

Very solid guard plays smart and can score (13 points here).

5 Navell Winbush 6’0" Freshman Poly (Long Beach)

Excellent defender fills the lanes on the break well.

6 Tim McLauren 6’2" Freshman Lynwood (Lynwood)

Terrific guard prospect does it all and then some!!! Very versatile player had game high 18 points.

7 Jerren Shipp 6’2" Freshman Fairfax (Los Angeles)

If his name is Shipp, you better believe he can shoot the rock!!! Like older brothers Joe (Cal) and Josh (Fairfax) has excellent range and maybe the quickest freshman shot release in the West.

8 Zamon McGee 6’3" Freshman St. John Bosco (Bellflower)

Talented wing prospect has a great feel for the game. Clark Francis (Hoop Scoop) loves this kid!

9 Josh Guillory 6’4" Freshman Poly (Long Beach)

Talented athlete missed this game due to illness, but remember the name – you will be hearing it a lot during the next four years.

10 Konrad Reuland 6’5" Freshman Mater Dei (Santa Ana)

Very solid forward has very nice court instincts and can put the ball in the basket. Had 14 points here.

11 Tyrone Armstrong 6’5" Freshman Atascadero (Atascadero)

Athletic wing forward with size is a pogo stick. With increased strength and continued hard work, could be scary.

12 Jervaughn Johnson 6’5" Freshman Centennial (Compton)

Man-child is not scared to exercise authority in the paint. Awesome body for age/grade (had 11 points and double-digit rebounds).

159 Winton Johnson 6’4" Freshman St. John Bosco (Bellflower)

Wiry forward runs floor very well. Nice potential.

184 Sean Reilly 6’8" Freshman Bishop Amat (La Puente)

Another promising big man in this class. Very solid rebounder and defender with nice hands.
