Fullcourt Press Fall Showcase:
Sophomore Player Notes--(Sept. 18, 2002)
What: | 10th Annual Fullcourt Press Fall Showcase
When: | Sunday, Sept. 8, 2002
Where: | Los Alamitos HS | |
Who: | Top SoCal Players, All Classes
Who Else: | D-II, III, NAIA and JUCO Coaches, National Scouts |
As we've already said, we were unable to attend the Fullcourt Press Fall Showcase two weeks ago Sunday because we were back in New Hampshire at Brewster Academy, but Dinos Trigonis keeps doing the write-ups on these games, so as long as he keeps sending them to us, we'll post them up. These notes are brief, and they are limited solely to the sophomore players who attended the Fall Showcase, and they do not necessarily reflect the views of SoCalHoops, but they are those of Dinos Trigonis of Fullcourt Press and Belmont Shore. If you've got a complaint, send it to him...Don't blame us, because we're just the messenger.
2002 Fullcourt Press Fall Showcase"Top 24" Sophomore Game Notes
* Rashad Austin 67" Sophomore Claremont (Claremont)
Very athletic forward has nice skills and potential to be a top recruit. Father Ron Austin played for Jerry Tarkanian at Long Beach State in the 70s.
* Jamal Boykin 66" Sophomore Fairfax (Los Angeles)
This was not one of his best individual performances, but he still had 18 points/10 boards. Boykin has his detractors, but you cant teach work ethic, awesome attitude and a yearning desire to be great! Warrior has a heart of a lion and is without question a WINNER!! Athletic ability is improving rapidly which bodes well for future development.
* Marcus Carter 64" Sophomore Claremont (Claremont)
Excellent athlete is a very nice slashing scorer and solid defender.
* Edward Dickerson 64" Sophomore Bellflower (Bellflower)
Athlete with nice build has promise.
* Anthony Goods 62" Sophomore Centennial (Corona)
Solid defender has ability to get to the basket.
* Michael Gordon 57" Sophomore Centennial (Compton)
Very quick point is tough to deal with in the open court. Pesky defender too.
* Brian Harvey 65" Sophomore Carson (Carson)
Scorer-deluxe reminds me a lot of a young Paul Pierce with his body-type and ability to score in a wide variety of ways including a dead-eye jump shot. A rising star!!!
* Maurion Henderson 60" Sophomore Fairfax (Los Angeles)
Skilled point has ability, but once he realizes that a PG needs to do more than score he will fulfill his potential as one of the top guards in this class.
* Brett Hoerner 610" Sophomore Fullerton (Fullerton)
Develeloping "big man" has nice jump hook shot and improved ability as a rebounder and defender. When he fills out, will be a post player in demand by college recruiters.
* Amir Johnson 69" Sophomore Verbum Dei (Los Angeles)
Center/post forward is oozing with potential! Shot-blocker is very long as well as active on the glass for rebounds and tip-ins. High-major potential.
* Marcus Johnson 65" Sophomore Westchester (Los Angeles)
Athletic wing forward runs floor well and has nice offensive game. Played well as a young pup at the Nike All-American Camp in July.
* Joey Knox 510" Sophomore Westchester (Los Angeles)
Savvy point is a nice ballhandler and passer.
* Shane Mosley 58" Sophomore Malibu (Malibu)
Very heady and scrappy point can play. Excellent at handling pressure and feeding the post.
* Edward White 64" Sophomore Harvard-Westlake (North Hollywood)
Although a little under the weather, White still performed well here, displaying an improved mid-range game. White has a reputation as an outstanding shooter, but is also an underrated passer and ballhandler.
