What:

10th Annual Inner-City Games Basketball Championships

When:

Saturday, Sept.14, 2002

Where:

Lyon Center, USC Campus

Who:

Boys' Teams, Four Age-Groups

We just received a belated press release from our friend, Rico Cabrera, Jr., who formerly played at Harvard-Westlake HS with Jason and Jarron Collins, and who also helps run the Say No League, and Rico wanted to alert us to the fact that tomorrow marks the final round of competition in the 10th Annual Inner-City Games Basketball Championships.   And tomorrow, before the competition begins, Jarron and Jason are scheduled to speak at 9:00 a.m. to the kids and their parents, which is sort of their way of giving a little bit back to the community, and a way to share stories of their own success in high school, college and the NBA.   Jason and Jarron will speak immediately prior to the start of the 9-10 year old championship game, which will be followed by three other games, (11-12, 13-15 and 16-18).  At the completion of the 13-15 championship game, at approximately 12:00 p.m., Brian Taylor, formerly of Princeton and also a former NBA Rookie of the Year (as well as the former girls' coach at Harvard-Westlake and currently a Slamball coach),  will present all of the kids participating with their award medals.

We really don't know much about who will actually be playing in the various rounds of the championships, but the Inner-City Games frequently has some excellent, but under-appreciated players participating.   For further information about the games, feel free to contact  Rico Cabrera, Jr.  at (310) 502-6959 or Priscilla Hernandez at (323) 881-6570.    Again, the event will take place at USC, at the Lyon Center, and will begin at 9:00 a.m.   For additional information about the history of the Inner-City games check out their official website at  www.lainnercitygames.com
