Men's Hoops to Host Annual Coaching Clinic
Los Angeles, CA (Sept. 19, 2002) - For the third consecutive year the Loyola Marymount University men's basketball team and the Southern California Interscholastic Basketball Coaches Association (SCIBCA) will host the 2002 Coaching Clinic on Sept. 28 in Gersten Pavilion.
Since Head Coach Steve Aggers took over the LMU program in 2000, LMU and SCIBCA have joined forces to offer a comprehensive clinic for Southern California coaches. The program will once again feature some of the top coaches in the area, discussing a wide range of topics. The clinic will begin at 9:00 a.m. and run until 4:00 p.m.
This year's schedule will include the following topics:
- "Developing a Comprehensive Strength and Conditioning Program" - Chris Rounds, head strength coach at LMU and former strength coach for the 1998 Kentucky national championship basketball team
- "Zone Offense" - Steve Aggers, head coach at LMU
- "Principles of Motion Offense" - Scott Pera, head coach at Artesia High School, guiding team to back-to-back 20-win seasons
- "Developing a Defensive Philosophy and Scouting" - Ray Lokar, head coach at Bishop Amat High School, 2002 CIF Champions
In addition, the program will feature the coaching topics in action with individual workouts by LMU players, a round table discussion to exchange ideas and answer questions and a free lunch provided by SCIBA.
For more information on the clinic, contact LMU Assistant Coach Richard Reed at (310) 338-4506 or email him at rreed@lmu.edu
