Wesley Washington Will Not Sign
NLI With Cal This Fall--(Sept. 30, 2002)

Well, it looks like one of our first recruiting predictions from last week was, as we fully predicted, completely and utterly wrong, which really means that our prediction was absolutely, flat-out correct. Remember, we wrongly predicted that Wesley Washington would sign with Cal after Omar Wilkes announces this week that he will sign with UCLA, but then said that there was no way any of that was actually going to happen.  And it looks like we were correct....er, um, or wrong.  Sheesh.

Anyway, according to Dinos Trigonis, who is Wesley Washington's (6'-3" Sr. G) club and travel coach, and who spent all of last weekend with Wesley flying to and from Los Angeles to Cherry Hill,  N.J., for Rick Barrett's Gym Rats Midnight Madness,  and back again, Washington will definitely not sign a National Letter of Intent with Cal this November.   Dinos sent us the following e-mail last night as a part of his "Trigonis Tidbits" update:

"After careful consultation with his family, the Cal program and his Mater Dei’s coaching staff, Washington has decided to focus on solidifying his academic standing with respect to NCAA freshman eligibility rather than sign with the Golden Bears during the NCAA early signing period. Washington remains very interested in Cal and the Golden Bears feel the same about Wesley, but both parties will reserve the right to proceed in their own best interests. Washington was co-MVP of the Fullcourt Press Fall Hoops Classic this month as well as being one of the standouts at the recent Gym Rats Mid-Night Madness All-American event in Cherry Hill NJ (scoring 33 points in the top game - garnering co-MVP honors). If Washington re-opens his recruitment look for high-major schools like Oklahoma State to be in the mix for his spring 2003 signature."
