Bishop Montgomery's Fred Washington
Commits To Stanford--(Oct. 22, 2002)

Getting the drop, so to speak, on everyone in the recruiting business, the Los Angeles Times' Ben Bolch reports this morning that Bishop Montgomery's standout senior forward Fred Washington (6'-6" Sr. F) has committed to Stanford.   The commitment was confirmed by Knights' head coach Doug Mitchell according to the Times.  As noted in the story, Washington "averaged 22.4 points and 8.5 rebounds and shot 53% from the field for a team that won its third consecutive Southern Section championship."

The verbal is the second in less than a week for the Cardinal, who also picked up a commitment from Brea-Olinda senior forward Evan Moore (6'-8" Sr. F).  Moore will sign a national letter of intent in football, and will also attempt to split time on the basketball team.  Two excellent pickups for Stanford, Washington played this summer with the Pump N Run All-Stars with Omar Wilkes and Trevor Ariza in Las Vegas, while Moore played with the Double Pump All Stars which won the Best of Summer Tournament at Loyola Marymount.
