Two JUCOs To NLI's--(Nov. 18, 2002)

While we've heard reports from Rodney Timmerman (7'-0" Sr. C) out of Paso Robles that he has committed to the Fresno State Bulldogs, apparently they haven't gotten any NLI back from him yet, because the only press release that's been issued by Fresno State is the one below, announcing the signings of two JUCO players, Jack Marlow (7'-0" So. C) and Dreike Bouldin (6'-8" So. PF). If they also pick up Timmerman, they'll have two guys who can immediately fill the front court hole created by the absence of Hiram Fuller and former Inglewood center Noel Felix next year, and will also build for the future with Timmerman.

In any event, here's the press release announcing the signings by head coach Ray Lopes of the two JUCO players, released on Friday:

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State men's basketball coach Ray Lopes has announced the signing of Jack Marlow (Broken Arrow, Okla.) and Dreike Bouldin (Shreveport, La.) to national letters of intent to play for the Bulldogs beginning next season.

"This is a good class for us at this time," Lopes said. "Our focus from Day 1 has been to replenish our front court. With the loss of Hiram Fuller and Noel Felix, we needed to beef up our front line. We have accomplished this by signing these two quality athletes who are both good students and committed to graduating from Fresno State."

Marlow, a 7-foot center, is currently a sophomore at Salt Lake (Salt Lake City, Utah) Community College. He began his career at Oklahoma State in 2000-01, where in his first season he played in 27 games, starting three, while posting 1.8 points and 1.7 rebounds per game. His best effort of the campaign came against Lamar, against which he scored 10 points.

Marlow played in just two games last year and redshirted. He transferred to SLCC at the conclusion of the 2001-02 season.

Coming out of Union High School, Marlowe was listed by some publications as the No. 2 prospect in Oklahoma. He averaged 17.3 points and 8.4 rebounds per game as a senior and led Union to a 21-5 record and a state quarterfinal appearance. He was selected to the Oklahoma Coaches Association's all-state team.

"What I really like about Jack is that he has played Division I basketball," Lopes said. "He was a top 100 prospect out of high school and was highly recruited by many schools. Jack comes from a top Division I program where he was well coached, and I'm sure he gained valuable experience from that.

"He's also a smart player with an exceptional basketball IQ. Jack brings good size to the team and because he is a good passer could present matchup problems."

Bouldin, a 6-foot 8-inch forward, is currently a sophomore at Carl Albert (Poteau, Okla.) State College. He averaged 13 points and 10 rebounds per game last year despite not playing basketball in high school. Bouldin also shot 43 percent from beyond the arc and 80 percent from the free throw line.

"Dreike is a very athletic combo forward that possesses a high skill level," Lopes said. "He is an extremely competitive, tough individual who cares about only one thing, and that's winning. He has the ability to play both the power and small forward positions because of his talents on the block and on the perimeter. He has been committed to us since August and has always wanted to be a Bulldog, and for that I am ecstatic."
