Around The Big 12: Kansas State Signs
Jeremiah Massey--(Nov. 22, 2002)

We received an e-mail yesterday from Etop Udo-Ema of the Compton Magic, letting us know that another of his guys has signed a National Letter of Intent, this time Jeremiah Massey of Oxnard Community College, who has been rated as the #2 JUCO power forward in the country. Of the Compton Magic guys, he joins Nick Dewitz (Iowa), Antonio Griffin (Florida State), Sheldon Pace (UTEP) and Blake Walker (Portland State). Etop was proud to tell us that "Compton Magic has the number 1, 2 and 6 rated power forwards in the country and also the #4 rated point guard in the country. Congratulations to all of the Compton Magic signees..."

Here's the press release issued by K-State on 11/20:

K-State Receives Letter of Intent from Jeremiah Massey
Lindy's No. 2-ranked junior college power forward rounds out
banner recruiting haul

Nov. 20, 2002

MANHATTAN, Kan. - The Kansas State men's basketball program wrapped up a banner recruiting period Wednesday as head coach Jim Wooldridge announced the receipt of a National Letter of Intent from Oxnard Community College standout Jeremiah Massey.

Massey, a 6-foot-8, 235-power forward is the fifth recruit to sign with the Wildcats during the early signing period. Last Thursday, K-State received official commitments from high school seniors Cartier Martin, Dez Willingham, Lance Harris and Tyler Hughes.

Even without Massey, the class of incoming freshmen has been listed by several recruiting analysis as a top-25 class. The addition of one of the nation's most highly regarded JuCo players is expected to push the class even higher.

Massey, a native of Detriot, Mich., is highly rated by virtually every recruiting service, including Lindy's, which tapped him as the No. 2 junior college power forward nationally in its 2002-03 basketball preview issue.

A 2001-02 first team California Community College all-state selection by the California Community College Men's Basketball Coaches Association, his 23.5 points per game ranked fourth among all junior college players in the state, while his 13.6 rebounds per game were second. Those averages were also tops among all freshmen, as he helped lead Oxnard to a 22-11 record, a berth in the state playoffs and a second-place finish in the Western State Conference.
