Around The WAC: Sheldon Pace
Signs With UTEP--(Nov. 19, 2002)

No press release from UTEP just yet on this signing (they're too busy celebrating the success of their current freshman, Giovanni St. Amant and John Tofi, who combined for 25 points in an otherwise brutal loss yesterday...but that's a different story).  New coach for the Miners and some new faces too, including one next year who will help bring some ballhandling and playmaking to El Paso.  Here's an e-mail we received from Chaffey College head coach Jeff Klein (who was also Sheldon's former high school coach at Upland) announcing the signing:

Sheldon Pace (6'-1" So. PG) from Chaffey College has signed a National Letter of Intent with The University of Texas-El Paso (UTEP).  Sheldon was a First Team All-State player for the Chaffey Panthers last season and he led the conference in scoring with 21.5 ppg,  6.9 assists per game, and 3.5 steals per game.  As a high school player at Upland High School, Sheldon led Upland to the CIF-SS Division I-AAA Section Championship and a trip to the State Tournament.  He was also named the Division I-AAA Co-Most Valuable Player along with high school teammate Kirk Snyder, who is now playing at Nevada-Reno.
