Announces Three NLI's--(Nov. 20, 2002)
Not to be left out in the cold, Pepperdine also released a statement today announcing the signing of three high school players, two of them from Southern California. Here's the release which we literally just received from the SID (it hasn't even been posted to the official website yet, so we can't link to it):
PEPPERDINE MEN'S BASKETBALL PROGRAM ANNOUNCES SIGNING OF THREE PLAYERS TO
NATIONAL LETTERS-OF-INTENTPepperdine men's basketball coach Paul Westphal announced today the signing of three players to national letters-of-intent.
"We are extremely excited about this year's recruiting class," said Westphal. "Our coaching staff targeted athletic, quick and versatile players, and that is exactly the caliber of player that we have signed. All three of these outstanding student-athletes are products of winning high school programs, and they will fit perfectly into our system. I know that our fans will enjoy watching them play in the years ahead."

Shaun Davis --
5-10, 175, Guard, San Diego, CA / Lincoln High
Averaged 20.4 points a game as a junior at Lincoln High, leading his team to the CIF Division IV-San Diego Section title game... Tallied 38 points in the championship contest against Horizon High...A three-year starter and three-time All-San Diego Section first team selection...Tabbed to the San Diego Union-Tribune first team last year...On track to be the all-time prep scoring leader in San Diego County.Westphal says..."I have always said it is important to have the fastest player in the gym...and with Shaun, we will have the fastest player in the gym playing for Pepperdine. Shaun has the ability to step in and be an immediate impact player for us. His quickness and winning attitude will make him extremely hard to stop at any level."
Jarrad Henry --
6-11, 245, Center, Kansas City, Kansas / Bishop Miege High
Averaged 8.9 points, 7.9 rebounds and 8.3 blocked shots a game as a junior at Bishop Miege High...Helped the team compiled a 22-3 record and finish fourth among Kansas AAAAA schools...Was selected the Kansas state "Defensive Player of the Year."Westphal says..."Jarrad is a perfect player for our system. He is long and athletic, plus he possesses tremendous timing to block shots. Jarrad is one of the top shot blockers in the country at the high school level. In addition to shot blocking, he is very good around the basket as a scorer and rebounder. We anticipate great things from Jarrad and believe he will have a fabulous career at Pepperdine."
Wendell White --
6-5, 210, Guard, Redondo Beach, CA / Redondo Union High
Averaged 16.0 points and 8.0 rebounds a contest as a junior at Redondo Union High...A three-year starter who has helped Redondo Union High win two CIF Southern Section Division II championships...A two-time All-Bay League pick...Named to the All-CIF Southern Section team last year...A three-time selection to the prestigious NIKE Camp...Ranked among the nation's Top 100 players nationally by several recruiting services.Westphal says..."Wendell is an extremely talented and athletic basketball player who possesses the ability and strength to play at any program in the country. He is the prototype all-around, athletic player that we love to have at Pepperdine. He can score from the perimeter and in the paint, and is versatile enough to guard just about anybody. Wendell will really shine in our system."
