Fundraiser:
Dinner & A Game With Coach Wooden--(Nov. 5, 2002)
If you've visited SoCalHoops over the past few years, then you know that more often than just occasionally we receive announcements and news of upcoming events that we are asked to pass along to the basketball community here in Southern California. Most of them are the standard, run of the mill-type-stuff, announcements of tournaments, clinics, camps, etc. You know, stuff like, "On January 4, 2003, the greatest high school basketball player ever on the face of the planet will play in the 101st Annual Lalapalooza Fantasical Extravaganzoid III..." You get the idea, right?
But every now and then we receive a message which is just so intriguing, so interesting that we can't resist saying, "Wow." Really. "Wow."
That's kind of how we reacted when we received an e-mail today from Mark Miller, who happens to be the secretary of the Randall Foundation. What's the Randall Foundation? Click the link to find out. But that's not the really interesting part of the message. Nope, no way. What's interesting is what the Randall Foundation is doing on November 15, 2002. It's an auction on E-Bay and the prize is something that any real fan and student of the game of basketball can't pass up. Here's the message from Mark Miller:
My name is Mark Miller and I am the secretary of the Randall Foundation (www.randallfoundation.org). We have some well known Southern California basketball people on our Board of Directors. Swen Nater, Cypress College, UCLA, ABA, NBA; Mark Eaton, Cypress College, UCLA, NBA and Don Johnson, Coach, Cypress College, to name a few. Our Board president is Mark Campanaro, of Cypress College and UC Santa Barbara who played professionally in Italy for 17 seasons. Our Foundation is named in memory of Bruce Randall, longtime assistant coach at Cypress College under Don Johnson. The Randall Foundation supports Students and Student-Athletes through scholarships and sponsorships.
Our annual fundraiser is coming up and I was wondering if it would be possible to post the announcement. On November 15th, the Randall Foundation is offering on Ebay for auction, the chance to attend a UCLA basketball game with Coach John Wooden and then have dinner with him after the game. Swen Nater and Mark Eaton will be the hosts for this event. We are also including 3 nights and 2 days at the La Quinta- PGA West Resort for a golf weekend.
The game the winner and one guest will be attending is UCLA vs Arizona, Saturday, January 18th, 2003, at Pauley Pavilion. The winner will get to sit with Coach Wooden at the game and then go out to dinner with him afterwards.
After the dinner, we will transport the winner and guest to La Quinta-PGA West in Palm Springs for the golf portion of the trip. Coach Wooden WILL NOT be attending this portion of the trip.
The Foundation will provide round trip airfare from anywhere in the continental United States to Los Angeles. Hotels, meals, ground transportation, and golf are all included. If you need to talk to someone from the Foundation, you can call me at 714-501-2344 or Mark Campanaro at 714-336-6733 Thank you for your assistance....
Sincerely,
Mark Miller, Secretary
The Bruce Randall Foundation
