California Hoop Challenge
At Lynwood HS, Jan 3, 2003--(Dec. 6, 2002)
Looking forward to a great weekend of basketball, especially the 9th Annual Dream Classic, which will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2002 at UCLA's Pauley Pavilion? Can't wait to see LeBron James and his St. Vincent-St. Mary's team from Ohio match up against Mater Dei? Here's an event which might get you excited, and it will feature some of the top boys' (and a couple of girls') teams in SoCal. It's called the "California Hoop Challenge" and it will be played at Lynwood HS on Friday, January 3, 2003 and it's going to be an all-day deal. Here's the schedule of games:
Friday, January 3, 2003 @ Lynwood High School
SESSION I
10:30 a.m. Bishop Montgomery v. Long Beach Wilson (girls) 12:00 p.m. La Jolla Country Day v. Long Beach Poly (girls) 1:30 p.m. Price v. Verbum Dei SESSION II
3:30 p.m. Montclair Prep v. Chaparral 5:00 p.m. Bishop Montgomery v. Harvard Westlake 6:30 p.m. Garces v. Eisenhower 8:00 p.m. Miami Christian v. Fairfax
Obviously, the second session is loaded with talent and top teams, and the first session will be pretty good too from what we've heard. We'll have some profiles of some of the top players for this event soon, but in the meantime, we're looking forward to seeing top players like Nick Stiggers (Montclair Prep); Dwain Williams (Chaparral); Fred Washington (Bishop Montgomery, Stanford signee); Bryce Taylor (Harvard-Westlake); Ed White, Jr. (Harvard-Westlake); Bobby Weinberger (Harvard-Westlake); Evan Harris (Harvard-Westlake); Robert Swift (Garces); Sean Marshall (Eisenhower, Boston College signee); Joe Shipp (Fairfax); Alex Bausley (Fairfax); Mike Pagan (Verbum Dei); Derrick Williams (Price), and many other top players. We'd mention a few of the girls, but we just have no idea who's who when it comes to girls' basketball and we'll be the first to admit it.
We also have no idea about ticket prices but it looks like this will be the kind of event where the gym will be cleared following the first session, and two sets of admissions will be charged. Of course that's just a guess. We're told that the tournament has it's own website, but for some reason the link seemed to be down when we tried to access it. You might also try checking BroadcastMonsters.com because we hear that the event will be broadcast over the internet. Check it out.
And, as always, we'll see you there.
